In our classroom, we emphasize kindness in everything we do. The novel that I am requesting for my students tells a story full of themes that relate to the students' lives and things that they should strive for: kindness, friendship, acceptance, and hope.
The donations to this project will allow students to explore these themes more closely, from an authentic point of view, in a way that helps them take a critical look at themselves and the world they belong to. I am lucky to teach in a district with a teacher-student ratio that allows me to form such strong rapport with my students. I would be thrilled to use "The One and Only Ivan" to continue strengthening those bonds as we read and grow from it together! Thank you so much!
