My students come from an area that exposes students to many hardships that sometimes hinders the learning experience. With these experiences, students still come to school ready to learn. These students come from a school that gives students free breakfast and lunch as a result of the poverty in the area. Students at this school learn about what kindness looks and feels like and also what a leader looks like. Many kids lack the opportunity of seeing what a leader looks like, so this school gives many opportunities to see this and a chance for the students to be leaders themselves. This leadership can include leading their peers academically, or leading them through social situations like being a friend or a problem solver. Many students look forward to going to school for this reason and love using their skills to empower themselves and others.
