The goal of this project is to introduce my students to literacy circles. By breaking the students down into small groups students can build a sense of community and find joy in reading a novel that is sometimes missing in a whole class setting.
I want students to find a love of reading and not just a mandatory state requirement. Literacy circles will do just that for them. I have also chosen books that are strong on sense of character and will allow me to bring discussions into the classroom on identity that are very important to students who are struggling to still find themselves.
11th grade is truly a crossroads for many of my students and I want to steer them in the right direction in any way I can.
