I teach in a California dual-immersion spanish kindergarten classroom, where the student body is very diverse. The immersion model is to create bi-literate students who are able to speak, read and write in both English and Spanish. The model allows for 1/3 of the class to be native English speakers, 1/3 to be native Spanish speakers and the rest of the students are bilingual.
