Sixth grade is the time in student's lives when exposure to new vocabulary broadens as they begin to read at more challenging levels. Writing is also blooming at this time, as they try to write beyond the basic level and become more descriptive and want to use higher level language.
A dictionary for each student would encourage and enable them to do their best work, whether at their school desks or at home. Dictionary skills and games will be used to make the learning fun and more engaging. Students will learn how to alphabetize, find word meaning, find word origins and parts of speech.
