I inherited a classroom last year that was in need of help, especially our classroom library. With 23 students I only have about 25 nonfiction books in our classroom library. We use nonfiction books to expand our learning on topics we read in our required reading curriculum. We pair them with our fiction stories or simply expand our learning on a topic of interest.
We don't have science books so these nonfiction books are used when we are learning about topics such as motion, the earth, changes in matter, space, plant life, and so much more! We also use them to learn more about other cultures and communities.
I am hoping these new books will open new worlds for my students and will help me reach students with various interests.
