Today in education, the emphasis of a friendly, engaged learning environment that prepares students for an ever evolving world is what every school district strives for. As a teacher, creating that environment in my classroom takes careful planning and an understanding of my audience. Seeing as how this coming school year will be focused mostly on teaching 5, 6 and 7 year olds how to read, the materials requested will provide engaging and tangible resources for my students to use and increase their love of learning. What’s more fun than playing games with your friends and learning at the same time?! Learning stations that involve manipulative letters makes learning to read and write more concrete. Using letter stamps and magnetic letters in table pocket charts allows the students to have hands on opportunities to produce words and sentences, therefore creating that concrete learning.
What’s more relaxing than sitting in a peacefully lit classroom library and reading about your favorite character or animal, or listening to someone read you a book? I have asked for the beanbag chairs for my library to create my that peaceful space. The kids need a comfortable place to dig into a good book or magazine. Time for Kids magazines, books on CD and leveled readers will add variety to their library and will help them explore topics that interest them in different forms of media. The technological aspect of the Time for Kids bundle will help my students use real world applications that will be used throughout their educational years and beyond. This year, with these items in my classroom, exploring learning in first grade will be something to remember.
