I believe that revitalizing our space will allow my students to exercise choice in the learning environment and find academic success on their own terms. In providing my students with a more diverse classroom, I hope to aide them in becoming more self-aware of what types of seating and environment help them learn best. And in turn, they're empowered by the opportunity to have choices.
The world is changing, yet our classrooms are remaining the same. Empowerment and engagement in a world that is made up of technological distractions is priceless. I truly believe that the benefits of a less restrictive classroom setting is impactful beyond our classroom parameters. Flexible seating lends itself to many opportunities in community building, student-centered collaboration and problems solving skills.
And let's be honest, who wants to sit at a desk all day? They're eight years-old. Their bodies are in constant motion and they deserve a safe and comfortable place to call their own for ten months of the year.
