Picture a classroom where students are encouraged to learn in the capacity and environment of their choice. Focusing on meeting the needs of all learners, I am trying to do just that this year through flexible seating. With a vision of making each student feel engaged and comfortable in their learning environment, I am allowing students to decide how and where their learning will take place to help them become independent and take ownership of their personal growth. Having the choice of working at standing tables, bouncy ball areas, floor seating with lap trays/clip boards, and under desks, my hope is to excite students and help them to learn in a new way that lowers stress and promotes comfortability.
I believe every student has the capability of achieving personal goals with the help of a flexible seating environment that recognizes the importance of student choice and needs. All items that I have selected will add to my flexible seating classroom and further encourage students to feel engaged in their classroom work and community. Having resources such as seat cushions, reading pillows, a sitting work table, and a stress relief/calming area teepee will help students feel emotionally supported, and provide them with the tools needed to lower their affective filter. Allowing students to fluidly access the entire classroom in a unique fashion will encourage them to take ownership of their learning and be prideful of their accomplishments.
I am excited and can't wait to see how the addition of these resources will help my students develop further into global citizens.
