Students will take a map and a compass and plan routes to certain places on the map. We will start with just a map of the school but these skills can be used anywhere (hiking, hunting). I will have prearrange points on the map (and on the school campus) that students will have to find and navigate to using their map and compass skills. At each checkpoint, there will be a stamp that the students will use to prove they found the correct location. We will learn cardinal directions, how to read a map, how to orient your map as you travel, how compasses work, and how to travel from point to point using a compass. All without a cell phone!
