The book "Wishtree" by Katherine Applegate is a touching story about teaching empathy and tolerance for differences among members of a community. Each classroom will read the novel as a read-aloud and then students will have the opportunity to make a wish for themselves, a wish for someone else or they can choose to make a wish for the world. The wishes will be tied onto the school community Wish Tree where they will be displayed for all the students to see during the year. We will highlight the project on the school morning news and interview students as they tie their wishes on the tree.
This is a wonderful project to build community and to teach our students about tolerance and empathy.
