We have different types of technology in our classroom, but it is very different using touch technology and computers. Many of my first graders are still grasping computer skills. They come into the classroom at the beginning of the year wanting to explore technology.
Having iPads with cases for students in a center to use daily will give them the opportunity to use technology to increase their knowledge and comfort level.
Technology can be for fun and games, but teaching my students how to use technology for learning allows learning to be more enjoyable and easier as they move on to other grade levels. Technology skills are essential for success inside as well as outside of the classroom. The students will be able to use the iPads to research and learn about things they want to know, and then create presentations and write reports to share with the rest of the class. The presentations will give the students the opportunity to teach their classmates about a variety of topics. It will also demonstrate their knowledge of the subject they researched. These iPads will also allow my students to work on their online portfolios showcasing their work to their parents throughout the year.
