Each week my students book shop in our classroom library. They pick books that are of interest to them as well as books at their reading level. These are the books they read for the whole week. It is important that our library is well stocked. Each teacher is responsible for creating, organizing and developing their library. My goal this year is to make sure that my students have books to choose from that reflect them and their lives. I am fortunate to have classroom library, but it isn't as diverse as my student population. In order to build my students confidence and interest in reading, I need to give them materials that help them understand their worth and the importance of their story.
