Reading, writing, math, science and social studies are the core essential subjects to our education, but we as teachers are seeing a disturbingly high number of students coming into our classrooms with social and emotional needs making subject matter hard to teach. What could be the missing element in schools? PLAYTIME! Students will learn about sharing, taking turns, patience, strategy skills and respecting one another through playing together! They will use their engineering skills to create huge LEGO structures. They will bond with their peers by talking and playing old fashioned board games like checkers, Battleship and Operation-instead of video games. We will use the younger games like Hungry, Hungry Hippo, Candyland, and Go Fish! with our primary buddy class and my class will be the role models of how to play appropriately.
