At every grade level we do a different clay project, from clay butterflies in kindergarten, to architectural structures in 4th grade. 3rd graders make pinch pots and 1st graders make coil pots.
In 2nd grade we explore engineering concepts by making clay fish sculptures. And by 5th grade, it's student choice projects.
Kinesthetic learning (learning by doing) is important in the arts. It is a way for students to explore personal expression, critical thinking and problem solving, as well as pride in their completed work. Having students glaze their projects is a great way to create an enduring artifact of their learning.
