Many of the students we work with have lost their love of learning and reading. Having the opportunity to work collaboratively with Ms. Kaplan, we envision a high table, stools, vibrant nature rug, chalkboards for creating and recreating stories, and low lighting to create a calm, unique space to make literacy engaging. More importantly, these materials will allow the students to be their own teachers in a sophisticated space. This fun area within the classroom will invite students to their own cafe-style space to read solo and be able to discuss the materials they are reading about with one another.
The cafe style high table will give the students a mature look and feel that reading is cool.
5th grade students are at the age where they want to be mature. Creating this cafe will give the students that balance they need to still be kids but big kids!
