This year our Creative Writing program is fortunate to bring together three talented student co-directors who have a new vision for publishing the student magazine and running the coffee house. Though diverse in cultural background and talents, they are all highly energetic, creative and determined to make the coffee house a true vehicle for student expression. As an important start, the student directors have arranged for the coffee house to take place regularly in our school bistro six afternoons throughout the coming school year. On these dates we will need to re-arrange the bistro so the space comfortably accommodates performers and audience members. The key to our students’ plan for success is the acquisition of inexpensive, but stylish furniture that can be easily set up and broken down after the event. The items needed include beanbag and folding chairs and tables, as well as other small items for ambiance. When coffee house is not in session, these items may be easily stored in the Creative Writing classroom. If we are fortunate enough to receive support, these items will enhance the coffee house atmosphere and attract more students to performances. By increasing the popularity of this event, we in turn hope to increase interest in our literary magazine and the writing process. Support for this project will help our students, encourage participation in the arts and contribute to our school community.
