These basketballs, for most of our students will be the first basketball they will have a chance to use and play with. Our school is entirely Title I meaning that 100% of students come from low income backgrounds. Sports is not an option for them. Something as simple as having a new basketball to use during my class is a big deal to these kids. Having never had a new toy or ball growing up these kids are starving to learn and play.
Basketballs will not only help our students learn and develop basketball skills but inspire them to find the joy in being physically active. I want students to have the opportunity see the potential in participating in sports. Sports can give kids a positive outlet in a world around them that has many other negative alternatives for them to take.
