Flexible seating in my classroom will allow my students to choose their most effective learning spaces for themselves. This choice allows them to take ownership of their learning and their classroom so that they feel like they are a part of a classroom community. Currently, I allow students on my "freedom list" who have demonstrated productive and responsible work habits to work around the room on independent work. These spaces include the library, front carpet of the room, our guided reading table, and one comfy chair that I currently have. I would like to provide more workspace options for students so they look forward to independent work while managing to stay focused on their learning.
Flexible seating benefits students by giving them freedom of choice, improving their physical health by allowing them to move around throughout the day, helps students with difficulty focusing to concentrate, and allows students to have fun while learning. The children's balance balls will be used at a table where students can work collaboratively. The wobble cushions will be placed on the six seats of our guided reading table for students to enjoy during both guided reading time and independent work time. They also may be used on the floor in the library or moved to students during the day on an "as needed" basis for students who need more movement throughout the day. The reclining seats will also be used for independent work time. Thank you for your support of students and their education!
