Sitting on the floor together is a great way to keep the students engaged, keeping everyone grouped together increases learning. My students get to participate and interact more with each other when we all sit together. However, our floors are not very comfy. The sit spots help the students sit in a way where they are grouped, but not so close they are tempted to play with each other. In addition, they are Velcro so they can be moved around the room when students are working in pairs or small groups.
They help teach about personal space, and help the students learn to problem solve to create their best learning environment.
