My students come from a diversified background, Title I school. Many homes in the area are facing foreclosure or have foreclosed. I teach a financial algebra class and the students need calculators in order to explore how money works! My students need to understand not just how to plug in the numbers, but what they mean. So without a scientific calculator, they get lost in the basics of order of operations and miss the application piece that is essential to learning.
