The use of Chromebooks is a daily activity in my classroom, especially for reading. Chromebooks allow me to translate assignments for my ELL students, as well as provide readings in their native language. The majority of my students are more than two grade levels below in reading. Having technology allows them to fill in the gaps with different reading programs that is based on where they are. What becomes a problem is the fact that some of the computers we have have issues such as keyboards not working, screens having issues, and them not being up to date. Having a few extra computers would help so much and create less stress for students. When something goes awry, students know that they must inform me and we need to try and come up with a solution and sometimes it is out of our hands. Even though they are great about doing this, it is distracting for many of my students who have focusing issues and they miss important instruction. It would cut down on waiting time for a device to be fixed because sometimes it takes weeks to get it resolved. Having a few extra Chromebooks would reduce stress and the students can continue their learning in a matter of minutes and they’ll be able to avoid all of these problems and focus on increasing their learning!
