Flexible seating has become a growing trend in classrooms because the research shows that it works! Our 21st Century learners need choices, comfort, a sense of belonging in a community, collaboration, and most importantly to move and have fun! Children with ADHD and Autism can function and learn in a classroom environment that meets their social and emotional needs. "If they can't learn the way we teach, we teach the way they learn." I firmly believe that all students can learn and be successful if they have the support and encouragement from their teacher. By donating to this project, I can create a sensory classroom with flexible seating options and a calm down area that will help all of my students focus, relax, and learn. I have requested different seating options such as wobble chairs, kick bands, and cushions for students that need to move, bounce, or rock in order to help them stay focused. I am also requesting specific items for a Calm Down Corner for all of my students to use whenever they need a break: the swinging pod, fidgets, and fluorescent light covers will be made available for students to calm down, refocus, and relax.
