Learning with Legos in the classroom has been a game changer. It has been heavily researched the building with Legos helps to strengthen fine motor skills, which is one of the most important developments in early childhood. While students are having fun and building things that I have asked them to or something they planned to create on their own, they are using special awareness, patience, creativity, critical thinking and following directions in some cases.
What better way to teach a child than to make it fun?! Having a Lego center in the classroom helps when students are finished with a project and I am working with other students, that student goes to the Lego center while I help the others, and is still engaged and strengthening important skills. We also build teamwork and communication skills in the classroom by using Lego building in a group. Having more supplies in our Lego center will help us tremendously and give more students the opportunity to work together.
