The book, Refugee, by Alan Gratz, will help my students to learn about our world and how we are connected to people in other places. The theme is to create an awareness of other people's problems and focus on how we are more similar than we are different.
Our world today is negative and the premise we will be creating is that we are all connected on this earth and to engage in a positive dialogue. It will also have an emphasis on heritage and where did our ancestors come from. I would like to emphasize that refugees are part of our own personal stories. The students will create an interactive bulletin board with wooden people to represent their heritage on a globe.
