These resources will make it possible to complete a reading area in the library. Students will be able to use the reading area to relax and enjoy a good book. Many will learn the comfort that can be found in a book and discover the world of possibilities awaiting them. Students will be invited to use the reading corner, complete with the couches, chairs and rug during library class, early morning tutoring, and afternoon tutoring. In addition, this will also be a place students can come to decompress. I believe through such activities many students could discover their love of reading and become life long learners. It all begins with reading!
I like to think this project could make an already difficult life a little easier for some children. That is one reason why as an educator and now a librarian, I often share my story of my early years and my inability to read. It was not due to the lack of effort, learning to read just did not come easy for me. The love of reading took until my adult years to develop. If a comfortable and inviting reading area can help one student develop the love of reading at an early age, they may not have to experience some of the difficulties I faced through many of my years in school.
