My students attend a public K-12 school in a VERY rural and very poor area of northern Michigan. Many of them come from up to thirty miles away to attend school, and many have either no Internet access at home, or an unreliable dial-up connection. Further, our school's Internet connection is often unreliable as well. The international relations class where I intend to use the requested flash drives is not textbook-driven, but instead relies largely on journal articles, news stories, essays, and raw data as learning materials. When the Internet is down, as it often is, it becomes very difficult to finish readings or class projects. My students need a way to have access to these materials even if they don't personally have access to the Internet at a given time.
