We all know that reading is fundamental. However, not all students love reading. Reading must be fostered with care and carefully. Students must be given choices with their reading. More importantly they must also be given choices with seating. A reading corner with bean bag chairs and good lighting attracts students. Sitting in a desk all day and ask to read for 20 minutes is often difficult.
Flexible seating will allow my students to take charge of their reading and make choices that work best for them. Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them. I noticed amazing differences in my students when they are given a choice in their seating. They make good choices about their books, are more engaged, and focused.
