We want to create a warm and comfortable environment for our students to read and and engage themselves with their books. With a comfortable learning environment they will feel at home while building their reading stamina throughout the year, while preparing themselves for their EOG's and the Read to Achieve test! Third grade is the starting point to prepare children for their state testing, and if they learn to get comfortable reading and increase their reading stamina, they will soar in their goals. This will increase their chances in their future years, all while enjoying the process. If we can get them hooked on learning and reading by third grade, their chances of future success is unimaginable. Some students have a difficult time just sitting in one place for a long period of time. Having a large carpet with separate squares allows us to get out of our seats and join together as a group in the front of the room. This way, we can have group discussions, group reading, and watch important video sessions from our projector. The balance ball chairs are especially helpful for students with movement issues while they need to be in their seats during curriculum time. These chairs allow for them to have movement and stay seated to do their work, a blessing for some children who have a lot of energy. Also, as mentioned, third grade is the year we start taking all of our standardized tests. We are working on our reading stamina and being able to read individually. Bean bags help motivate independent reading time. Help our students soar! This is the year to create the spark in learning!
