Multiple copies of diverse text will allow students to support each other in a shared reading experience. High-interest, engaging books will promote independent reading. Using verse novels in the classroom will inspire struggling reluctant readers, build reading stamina, and increase comprehension. These books will also allow for student-directed book clubs in order to develop and strengthen speaking and listening skills. Student reading blogs will be used to demonstrate comprehension and critical thinking of their independent reading. Novels in verse are becoming popular among preteens. Due to the structure of the text, they appear less intimidating and allows for student success.
