I enjoy helping my students authentically connect with the diverse cultures around the world through music. We would love to add some standing tubanos to our small collection of djembes. These would give more students access to their own drum, as we rotate through a variety of drum sounds. They would also allow us to use more expressive movement as we move from instrument to instrument.
Drumming encourages students to work together, and develop collaborative skills in an engaging atmosphere. It provides students an excellent opportunity to develop motor coordination while also developing a stronger sense of beat, and rhythmic independence. As they work together to practice and master their skill, they also learn that they are part of the success of a cohesive group!
With your help we can learn more Latin and African rhythms like the Rhumba, and the Bembe. We will be able to experience a more complete drumming sound as we sit in our drum circles!
