Literacy should be incorporated into a math classroom just like math should be in a literacy classroom. In this project, I am requesting a variety of stories that will incorporate our math topics so that students can focus on literacy and mathematics. In past lessons, students always question why we would read a story when we should be learning about math or science. I want to break that line of questioning and make literacy commonplace in the math classroom.
Reading to students, especially in middle school, is important to their development as well. It is common to read to elementary age students but as students enter middle school and high school, that tends to stop. With these resources, I will read to students and have students read to one another to develop their love for reading, expand their vocabulary, increase comprehension and encourage creativity.
