Social emotional games, books, and tools are included to create a safe and healing environment are essential to the well-being of my students and their academic success. My project includes lighting and an essential oil diffuser to promote soft lighting and to create a calming, safe space. Often times, the harsh rigidity of the classroom prevents students with a history of trauma and students with special needs from being most successful. The fidget tools will allow them to take a mental break while learning to self regulate. I have also included mindfulness games and social emotional games to be used in individual counseling sessions and small group counseling to self- advocacy, self-regulation, and relationship building.
By building character traits and having a better understanding of their emotional intelligence, my students will develop the skills to help them push through adversity.
