It's heartbreaking as teacher to tell a child they can't read a book because there's a shortage of resources. Having a limited amount of books really creates challenges.
My students aren't motivated to participate in class discussions or complete assignments when they don't have access to the material. It's important for each of my students to have a copy of "Freak the Mighty." The book will be used as our whole group focus novel and during independent reading time. The independent reading activities will support students' comprehension of the content because they are able to read at their own pace.
I'm asking for the donation because we don't have the resources to purchase books for each student and our parents don't always have the finances to purchase necessary reading material, but they do want their child to read!
