My students all have very high sensory needs with no place in the classroom to get their needs met. They need an area to relax and get their bodies back to a point where they can complete their classwork. These materials will be used to create a corner within my classroom to use as a break area as they need it. The tablecloth will be the cover that the projector will shine on for light sensory. The vibrating pillow, changing color pillows, and weighted blanket will be options for the students to increase their sensory needs. The floor mats will make the area more comfortable to the students to sit on the floor if they do not wish to use the bean bag. The toys will be extra options for them to play with while in this area.
The goal of this area in the classroom is to decrease maladaptive behaviors that interrupt student learning. If my students are able to get the sensory input they need, they will be calmer and in turn be able to learn more. We all need sensory breaks throughout the day and I want to be able to give my students these sensory breaks within the classroom to avoid having them miss more class time for sensory breaks or related service pullouts.
