In our classroom we cover math and science. We currently have desk with attached chairs. When asking my kids what would make our room feel safe and like a second home they stated comfy seating. We have brain stormed some ideas we would like to have. Some of the items requested are to help our flexible seating be organized as well.
Flexible seating allows students to feel comfortable as well as work in groups in the classroom. My students requested a futon so they can sit at a coffee table and work like they do at home. Other students wanted to lounge in bean bags while using clipboards to complete their work. They also like that beanbags can be moved around the room freely. We also have a countertop area they can sit on stools and work at. With the completed project students will need a place to put papers and the organizer and folders will be of big help in helping them stay organized without a typical school desk.
Having a classroom where students have choice and feel safe is one of my priorities as a teacher. I wanted my students to have a say of what they have in the classroom, which is why I brainstormed with them before created this project. My students come from different backgrounds and some are less fortunate than others. For those students it is especially important to create a fun space for them to relax and learn.
