All students want to be able to communicate effectively with others. This is where speech therapy comes in to action. Without speech therapy, many of my students would feel lost and alone in a big scary world. And if there is one thing I have learned in my years as an SLP, it's that children need to be interested and engaged in order for speech therapy to be effective. To keep them engaged, they need speech sessions that don't just involve flashcards and drilling skills repeatedly.
There is no supply list sent home for speech, and often no extra supplies sent in to the classroom teachers for students to bring to speech sessions.
I have chosen the supplies my students need to have success in speech therapy for an entire school year. My students each need a folder and notebook to bring back and forth between home and school to practice their skills outside of the speech room. We use copy paper, crayons, markers, glue sticks and scissors everyday to fill those folders and notebooks with exciting projects and crafts.
