Has your belly ever growled because you were hungry, because you were late or you missed the bus, stayed after school for practice, or the bus didn't come and you had to walk to school. One day in class I heard a noise I'd never heard before. It was a noise that was long and loud. It came from a student. It was a growl from her stomach. I had never heard that from one of my student's stomach. Many of my students come from economically challenged environments. However, they are like most that have a snack with them for practice. It's enough to have just a regular meal in some cases. Extra food for a snack just is not a given. Consequently, they enter my classroom hungry and lacking of energy to do their classwork or participate in practice after school. The healthy snacks and water will provide them with the energy needed to make it through the sometimes lengthy academic requirements of the rigorous educational environment. I will provide after school snacks for students that are homeless and don't have the extra to make it till they get home. water is needed for hydration. We will also supply take home snacks and bags for our at risk students who we know will not have food over into the night.
