With books such as "Wishtree" and "Hello, Universe," the 4th and 5th grade students at my school can participate in the annual Battle of the Books competition. I usually have 50 to 80 students compete. Students divide into teams of 4 and read the 8 books assigned, take notes and work together as a team. Next April, they will compete against each other in a Jeopardy-like format with detailed questions about the books. Our school's champion team will go on to compete with other schools in our district. Having 8 copies of each book available at school ensures that everyone has access to check out the books from the library.
