The community is made up of primarily Hispanic migrant farm workers and Haitian immigrants. English is not the 1st language out here, and the population is 99% classified as economically disadvantaged. The students have been growing academically for the past few years, but because they come to school with so little background knowledge and "normal" childhood experiences, they are way behind the other schools in the district. They are good kids who have rough homelives and if I can make a difference by opening up the world to them, then I know they will be better off in the long run. Most of the students are eager to learn and they love being in school because it gives them a stable place to be everyday. Some kids that attend this school only eat when they are here. Our school participates in a summer food program that gives free meals to kids under 18 and their families during summer break. They could use your help.
