My students come to school looking for love, acceptance, and often times, food. We are located in a low socioeconomic area and sometimes basic needs are not being met at home. School is a safe place for our kids and we treat them as family. My school is very small with an enrollment of about 110 kids from Preschool through 5th grades. Most children come from broken homes, or multiple family homes in many cases. At my school we are all one big family. That is perhaps the biggest thing we focus on: treating everyone like family, behaving as though we are family, looking out for each other, etc. We are little, but we are fierce, just as the quote says. This school, community, and children have captured my heart. I want to bring something new and exciting to them.
