My students have a zest for learning and experiencing the world! But they face challenges and have learning needs which require different resources and teaching methods in order to reach them. Several students have autism, other students are developmentally and cognitively delayed, so they all benefit from more direct instruction than what the general curriculum is designed for. These teacher resources will give me the inspiration and ideas to differentiate my classroom so that I can reach and teach my very diverse learners.
My students do not learn like everyone else, yet I am given the same resources as everyone else.
Here are some specific ways in which these items will be utilized:
~I plan to incorporate social skills training into our Morning Meeting routine. The resources, Social Skills Activities for Special Children and The New Social Story Book will help me to put together inspiring activities and lessons to directly teach social skills to my students, most of whom struggle with social norms. Additionally, I plan to use the read aloud book, My Brother Charlie in a diversity themed unit in order to create a positive and inclusive classroom environment.
~Word Problems for Nonreaders and Differentiated Math will help me put together appropriate lesson ideas to teach important math concepts to my students, most of whom are non-readers, all of whom learn differently.
~Creative Resources for the Early Childhood Classroom has themes and lesson plan ideas which appeal to primary students.
My kids deserve to have unique inspiring learning experiences that cater to their needs and are designed for them. Please help me obtain the tools I need to create a dynamic and appropriate learning environment for my students. Thanks for your consideration!
