We are working in a classroom that looks the same as it did 70 years ago. Students are sitting in desks and chairs all day, and many are struggling to stay focused. Many adults do not work all day sitting down at a desk, and my students will not work that way when they leave school and enter the workforce. I want to provide them with a variety of seating choices so they have an option to choose what works best for them as an individual student. My students need a variety of seating options including a bouncy chairs, floor trays, reading pillows, wobble cushions, balance ball chairs and wobble chairs. I can't wait to see their growth as students and individuals!
My students will love being able to choose seating options as they work independently in our classroom.Through research, I have seen fantastic results from classrooms with open seating options for their students. I know my students would benefit as well, and I can't wait to see their excitement, as well as engagement, increase with our new seating options.
