My students learn by imagining and doing!
Dramatic play offers the opportunity for students to actively experiment in social and emotional roles in their life. Through dramatic play, kids lean to play cooperatively, take turns, problem-solve, and use imagination! They are able to reenact a story, further develop expressive language, and practice self-regulation skills.
Students are able to use the items within dramatic play to expand upon classroom themes and units. Dramatic play builds confidence and allows students to socially interact and communicate with one another in a creative way.
These items will continue to enhance my students day to day activities and creative expression. So many things can be done with a dramatic play area! Using the pretend kitchen and the organizational functions of the shelving, students will be guided in engaging in dialogues that encouraged sentence structure and vocabulary. Students will also be given the opportunity and guidance to use appropriate social strategies to plan their play with classmates, and eventually carrying out the play. Students will also be inspired to learn about the functionality of money and how it applies to every day life through pretend play using the cash register.
Students will be afforded the opportunity to learn in a "play-rich" environment that will promote the development of language, literacy, mathematics, and social behaviors.
