School supplies really do get used up! Many of the supplies that I was given in the beginning of the year did not even last until winter break, and in an under-funded school and district, I am not given any more supplies for the entire year. I've been filling some gaps out of pocket, but definitely can't get my students everything they need.
Having these supplies means that ALL the kids in my classroom, not just the ones who can afford to buy extra notebooks or markers or their own reusable water bottle, will have the materials that they need to be successful in their learning. I also want to help them be more organized, which is why having pencil cases, and a way to will attach them to desks, will help to keep track of the supplies that they DO get, and to make those supplies last longer. A few of these supplies (chart paper, stickers, and prizes) are also things that I as a teacher will be able to use to help with learning and celebrations of that learning!
I have found lots of ways to be creative in making fun projects happen with few resources, and I am also so excited to potentially take on some more aspirational projects in the future. With that said, it really helps to have the basics taken care of so that I then have the capacity/resources to get other things on the fly. Essential school supplies are called that for a reason---they are ESSENTIAL. Thank you so much for supporting my classroom and my kiddos!
