I chose to have amazon fire tablets as my project because one of our school wide goals is student led data collection. This school year, I will work with my students to create their own "Smarty Pants" folders to show what they have learned. My students can use these folders supplemented with the digital portfolio to show anyone who comes into our classroom where they are with their goals.
Data drives our classroom instruction. It shows us what concepts students have already grasped and where they need a little more support.
The goal for our project is for students to collect their own data and be able to articulate their progress to parents and staff. Having students collect and analyze their own data allows them to see the correlation between their work ethic and scores. In first grade, this task may not seem achievable from the outside, but I promise you my first graders are little sponges and are able to take and excel any task thrown their way.
