Rug time is always a good time in our classroom. It's a time to come together as a group, to learn collaboratively and define a safe learning space. It's a time for students to learn how to sit with their friends, how to have conversations, and ask and answer questions (for a five and six year old this can be difficult).
Having a rug will allow my students to sprawl out during work time. It will give them the freedom to make a choice to sit or lay on the rug and work independently. Students will have the choice to use a lap desk while sitting on the rug, or a clipboard and lay down and work on their bellies.
Theres nothing better than a nice rug to sit on during our cold New England winters months! No more tile floors for my students.
