Having a nice journal to record their own unique stories can encourage my students to hone their essential writing skills. Maps will allow them to see where they come from and Oh, The Places They'll Go.
Journaling will encourage these bright and diverse students to know themselves and allow me as a first-time teacher to know them and build essential and nurturing relationships.
99.4% of these future leaders live in poverty. When they are in my classroom, and writing about their lives, their families, their hopes and fears, they can put that burden down for a time. They can feel special. They can get help. They can and will rise above it. Endeavor to persevere!
