Creating a classroom that is fun-filled and learner friendly is what my project is all about. My students take community training trips monthly which allow them to put to practice some of the functional life skills being taught in the classroom setting. The students work on money skills, shopping skills, cooking skills, and following directions. The students work in groups, independently, and one on one with classroom staff to complete assigned tasks.
I have also set up independent tasks boxes, (vocational tasks boxes included), that the students utilize for continued practice once a skill has been learned. The students love working on and completing their assigned tasks so that they can move on to the next. The students have a great sense of accomplishment once they are done.
This project will allow the students to learn life skills/vocational skills that they will be able to utilize in the future. With these supplies I will be able to assign weekly classroom jobs to the students. The students will learn to use the laminator, to assist in making classroom activities that the students will utilize and also provide the service to others on campus. The shredder will be utilized to teach the students how to use a shredder and the importance of shredding important documents. The students will use the vaccum, which is a life skill/vocational skill that the students will benefit greatly from as young adults. I have carpeted reading and quiet zone areas that the students will be responsible for cleaning daily.
