These materials will provide scaffolds for my students as they make meaning of math concepts like place value, multiplication, division, and fractions. Students need something concrete, like base 10 blocks, when they are introduced to a new concept. They can visually associate how groups of 10 are related to hundreds and thousands.
The materials make math interactive -which will be a lot more engaging for my students! They are much more motivated to participate in the math task when they can use their hands.
These materials can also be used as math games during small group work. The card decks, for example, will be used for games that reinforce place value by having students make the largest number with their number cards. These small group games will be fun and keep them focused while I work with other student groups.
